Shein Tracking Statuses Explained: What Each One Means

Shein tracking statuses follow your parcel from a Shein warehouse, usually in China, through export, a flight, customs, and a final handover to a local delivery carrier. The confusing ones, like "pickup exception" and "shipment is in transit to carrier", describe those handovers, and most of them resolve on their own within days. This guide decodes every status and tells you what to do at each stage.

Short answer: Shein statuses cover four stages: warehouse, international transit, customs, and local delivery. Quiet stretches are normal because Shein says tracking updates can take 3 to 5 days between checkpoints. Act only on "pickup exception", "failed delivery attempt", "available at pickup point", and "returned to sender". Everything else usually means the parcel is moving.

How does Shein order tracking work?

Shein tracking lives in your account. Go to My Orders, select the order, and tap Track to see the delivery method, the carrier, and the event feed. If there is no tracking number yet, Shein says the order is still being processed in its warehouse, and you get an email once it ships.

Two Shein-specific quirks explain most panics. First, scans are sparse. Shein's own help page says updates can take 3 to 5 days because a parcel is only scanned when it reaches the next checkpoint. Second, your parcel changes hands several times. A linehaul partner flies it out of China, customs processes it, and a local courier delivers it. Each handover can look like a stall. The pattern is the same one we unpack in our guide to 4PX tracking statuses. Consolidators like 4PX run exactly this kind of journey.

Once the local carrier has the parcel, Shein points you to that carrier's own site for the freshest updates. Your Shein feed and the carrier feed can lag each other by hours. That is normal.

What does "customs clearance in progress" mean on Shein?

Your parcel is being processed at the border of the destination country. Shein ships most orders cross-border, so nearly every parcel passes this stage once. A few days here is routine, and "cleared from customs" or "tax paid" is the release signal. If it sits more than a week, raise it with Shein support rather than the carrier, because the shipper owns the customs entry.

What does "failed delivery attempt" mean on Shein?

The local courier reached your address and could not complete the delivery. From this scan onward the local carrier is in charge. Use the carrier link on your Shein Track page to reschedule or redirect, and do it quickly. Repeated failed attempts, or an uncollected pickup-point parcel, usually trigger the return-to-sender flow covered below.

What does "shipment is in transit to carrier" mean on Shein?

It means your parcel is between two carriers. The first leg, Shein's export and linehaul network, is finished or in progress, and the delivery carrier in your country has not scanned it in yet. The parcel is riding a truck, a plane, or a customs queue in between. Nothing is wrong.

This status earns its reputation because it can sit unchanged for days while the parcel crosses the world. Shein's 3 to 5 day checkpoint gap applies hardest here. Give it a week before worrying. For the generic version of this status, read our explainer on what in transit to carrier means.

If the status passes about 10 days with no movement, contact Shein customer service rather than a carrier. Until the delivery carrier's first scan, only Shein's side can trace the parcel. Shein asks you to raise undelivered orders within 45 days of the payment date, so do not sit on it for weeks.

What does "pickup exception" mean on Shein?

A pickup exception means a scheduled collection did not happen. On Shein orders it almost always sits at a handover point. The next carrier in the chain went to collect the parcel and could not complete the pickup. Causes include a batch that was not ready, a closed facility, a missed driver run, or paperwork that needed fixing.

It is not a lost parcel, and it is not about your address. Carriers typically retry the collection automatically within a business day. Watch the feed for a new "picked up" or "in transit" scan, and treat the status as noise unless it repeats. Our full guide to what a pickup exception means covers the generic cases.

If the exception persists for 2 to 3 business days with no new scan, contact Shein support through the app. The snag sits on the shipper's side of the journey. Shein's logistics team can fix it, not the delivery carrier in your country.

Which carriers actually deliver Shein orders?

Shein does not publish a global carrier list. Its help pages say the local carrier takes over for final delivery and that you can track on that carrier's official website. On its UK site, Shein says customers receive orders via its UK courier partners. So the honest answer is: it depends on your country, and your Track page names the one that matters.

Some partners are publicly verifiable. In the US, the carrier OnTrac shows Shein among the brands it delivers for. For US returns, Shein's own policy routes parcels through Happy Returns drop-off with a QR code or USPS store drop-off. In the UK, Evri lists Shein among the retail clients it delivers for. Beyond those, trust the carrier named on your tracking page over any list a blog gives you, including ours.

Stuck at one status: what should you do at each stage?

Match your action to the stage, not to the days elapsed.

Stuck in Processing. No tracking number means it has not shipped. Orders with preorder or customized items take longer by Shein's own policy. Contact Shein support if it sits far past the estimated window.

Stuck In transit or in transit to carrier. Quiet is normal for up to 3 to 5 days between checkpoints. Cross-border legs are the slowest part. Our guide to why a package gets stuck in transit explains what is physically happening.

Stuck at customs. "Customs clearance in progress" for a few days is routine. Over a week deserves a support ticket. Here is what to do when a package is stuck in customs.

Stuck after the local handover. Now the delivery carrier's site is the source of truth. Reschedule failed attempts there, and collect pickup-point parcels before they expire back to sender.

Delivered but not received. Check the mailbox, the porch, household members, and neighbors first. Then report it to Shein: within 45 days of the delivery date shown on tracking for US orders, and within 30 days on its UK site. The full checklist is in package says delivered but not received.

The hard deadline to remember: Shein asks you to contact customer service within 45 days of the payment date if the package never arrives at all.

What happens when a Shein package is returned to sender?

"Package returned to sender" means the delivery failed for good and the parcel is traveling back toward Shein's logistics network. The usual triggers are repeated failed delivery attempts, a pickup-point parcel that nobody collected, an address the carrier could not use, or a customs refusal.

The bad news is that return legs are slow and often barely tracked, so expect the feed to go quiet. Do not wait for the parcel to complete its journey home. Contact Shein support as soon as the status appears, confirm your address, and ask for a refund or a replacement. Keep Shein's 45-day contact window in mind here too. For the generic version of this status across carriers, see what returned to sender means.

The merchant view: Shein-grade tracking without Shein-grade confusion

If you run an ecommerce brand, this page is also a mirror. Cross-border orders hop between a linehaul partner, customs, and a local courier. Every hop produces opaque statuses, and every opaque status generates where is my order tickets. Carriers emit anywhere from 10 to 115 raw statuses each, which is why carrier status normalization exists as a discipline.

Pango normalizes those feeds into clean milestones on a branded tracking page, and treats a stall as a trigger. A pickup exception or a silent week in transit becomes a proactive message to the customer before they open a ticket. That layer runs through Pango's order tracking module, live today, on the same record that runs delivery and returns.

The bottom line

Most Shein statuses are just a parcel changing hands across the world, and the quiet stretches are built in. Act on pickup exceptions that persist, failed deliveries, waiting pickups, and returns to sender, and leave the rest alone. For brands, the lesson is to translate raw statuses before customers have to google them. See how the post-purchase operations platform does it and book a demo.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about how Pango works, and what switching looks like.

Because Shein parcels are scanned at checkpoints, not continuously. Shein's help page says updates can take 3 to 5 days between facilities, and international legs are the quietest. If nothing moves for about 10 days, or your estimated window passes, contact Shein support within its 45-day window.

It depends on the country. Shein hands parcels to local carriers for final delivery and tells you to track on that carrier's official site. OnTrac publicly lists Shein among the brands it delivers for in the US, and Evri does the same in the UK. Your Track page names the carrier for your order.

Your parcel is at a pickup point, locker, or store and is waiting for you, or a courier collection has not happened yet. Collect it promptly, because uncollected parcels are returned to sender after a holding period. The Shein app shows the location under Track.

Check around the property, with household members, and with neighbors, then report it to Shein quickly. Shein's US shipping page asks you to contact support within 45 days of the shown delivery date, and its UK page within 30 days. The store, not the carrier, owns the investigation.
