Zalando runs the biggest fashion logistics operation in Europe, and its tracking reads accordingly: short statuses in the app, a carrier link that comes alive only after handover, and a different last-mile carrier depending on which country you shop from. Every status phrase and rule below is Zalando's own wording from its help pages and its published carrier documentation, verified in 2026 with capture dates in our source ledger.
Short answer: "We're packing your order" means it hasn't left the warehouse, and there's no tracking yet because "the tracking link will not be live until your package has been received by the carrier." After shipping, quiet stretches are documented behavior: Zalando says the tracking "does not update daily" and to contact customer service only if nothing changes within 5-6 business days. Returns are free within 30 days (the famous 100-day policy is gone), and refunds land "within 14 days from the day you handed over the return parcel to the carrier."
The statuses, in Zalando's own words
| Status | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| We're packing your order | In the warehouse, not shipped. No live tracking yet | Wait for the shipping email |
| Shipped / "on it's way to you" | With the carrier. The tracking link is now live | Track via the link or your account |
| Shipped and delayed | Zalando's own flag that the parcel is running late | See the delay section below |
| Ready for pick-up from pick-up location | At your parcel shop or locker | Collect it promptly |
| Delivered | Handed over, or left per the delivery note | Check the note if nothing arrived |
| Cancelled | Order cancelled, payment refunded | Reorder if you still want it |
| Returned / "on it's way back" | Going back to Zalando | Refund follows processing |
Two mechanics worth knowing, both from Zalando's own tracking FAQ: the tracking link arrives "in your shipment confirmation email after your parcel has been dispatched" (or under My Account), and it activates only once the carrier has physically received the parcel. A dead link right after the shipping email is normal for a few hours.
Tracking not updating: Zalando's own thresholds
Zalando publishes its patience rules, which is rare and useful:
- Updates are not daily. "The tracking link does not update daily. However, if the tracking link has not updated within 5-6 business days please contact our customer service."
- Delayed before shipping: "You will receive a shipping confirmation email once your order leaves our warehouse. The new estimated delivery date will be available once your order leaves our warehouse."
- Delayed after shipping: Zalando marks the parcel "Shipped and delayed" and asks for time before investigating: "We're unable to start an investigation immediately, because our courier partners need time to resolve delivery issues." Once you can request a check, "we'll email you an update within 2 business days" (5 days for partner orders).
- Express orders that ship late get their fee back automatically: "Your express delivery fee will be refunded once your order has been shipped."
The physics behind the quiet stretches are the same as any parcel's: see why a package gets stuck in transit.
Who delivers Zalando in your country
Zalando's own carrier documentation (its approved carrier matrix, June 2026) names the last-mile carrier per country. The ones shoppers ask about most:
| Country | Carrier(s) |
|---|---|
| Germany | DHL Paket, Hermes |
| UK | Evri, Royal Mail |
| Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland | PostNord, with pickup points as the Nordic standard |
| Netherlands | PostNL, DHL eCommerce |
| France | Colissimo, Chronopost, Colis Privé |
| Italy | Poste Italiane (SDA), UPS, BRT |
| Poland | DHL eCommerce, DPD, InPost |
| Belgium | bpost |
| Spain | Correos, Seur, CTT Express |
| Ireland | An Post (DHL Parcel) |
Once the parcel is with the carrier, the carrier's own site is the richer tracking feed. In Sweden, Norway and Finland, note that pickup-point delivery is the mandatory default, so "Ready for pick-up" is the expected happy ending, not an exception.
Delivered, but no parcel
Zalando's first advice is the classic one: "Please check if the parcel was delivered to a neighbour." Its delivery notes narrow the search: the app records "Delivered to neighbour," "Delivered to mailbox," "Left in designated safe place," or "Delivered to pick-up point." If the parcel genuinely hasn't reached you "within one week after it has been shipped," contact customer service. The formal route is Zalando's own missing-parcel flow: "The next step is to make a formal statement that your parcel is missing. We require this to take things further with the courier," after which "our team will email you with a resolution or next steps within 2 business days." The generic checklist is in package says delivered but not received.
One more documented behavior: if delivery fails repeatedly, Zalando refunds instead of resending. "It was therefore returned back to us. If you had already paid for this parcel, we will refund the amount... Unfortunately, we won't able to re-send you the parcel. If you still want to get your desired products, please place a new order."
Returns: the 30-day reality
The policy people remember is outdated. Zalando's famous 100-day return window has been shortened, and its current pages are unambiguous: "You can return unused items within 30 days free of charge," with items "in their original condition (unworn and with the labels still attached)". Trying an item on is fine: by the same policy, it "doesn't count as it being worn."
The mechanics, all from Zalando's own pages:
- Your return label or QR code lives in your account and "is valid for the entire 30-day return period."
- No printer needed at parcel shops: "show or use your return code, and the courier will handle the rest."
- No exchanges, ever: "We don't offer direct exchanges, only refunds... return your unused items for a full refund and simply place a new order instead."
- Refund clock: "You will receive your refund within 14 days from the day you handed over the return parcel to the carrier." Keep the carrier receipt until the money lands, and note that even after tracking shows your return delivered, "it might still take a few days for our team to process your parcel."
- Partner items ("Sold by a Partner") return separately from Zalando-shipped items.
Tracking an order from another marketplace? The same playbook exists for SHEIN, Temu, Vinted, AliExpress, eBay international orders, and Etsy.
The merchant view
Zalando's playbook is worth stealing even if you never sell there: per-country carrier strategy documented down to whether pickup points are mandatory, published patience thresholds ("5-6 business days"), delay states with automatic compensation, and a refund clock measured from carrier handover, not warehouse arrival. Most brands publish none of this and pay for it in where-is-my-order tickets. Pango gives brands the same machinery: multi-carrier routing per country, normalized tracking with proactive delay messages, and exchange-first returns, the one thing Zalando itself doesn't offer.
The bottom line
Zalando tells you exactly how patient to be: no tracking until carrier handover, updates that aren't daily, a 5-6 business-day threshold before worrying, a 30-day return window and a 14-day refund clock. Match the status to the table above and you know whose move it is.
