PostNord tracking statuses are the labels PostNord assigns to a parcel as it moves from your warehouse to your customer's hands. They tell you where a shipment is and whether it is on track. This post explains what the common statuses mean, what you should do at each one, and why the raw status feed is harder to act on than it looks.
A customer emails you: "My PostNord tracking says 'Informed' but nothing has moved in two days." That single word causes a lot of support tickets. Knowing what each status actually means is how you answer that question before the customer asks it.
The main PostNord tracking stages
PostNord parcels move through a predictable set of stages, even if the exact wording shifts between shipment types and countries. Here are the ones you will see most often.
| Status | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Informed / Pre-advised | PostNord has the shipping data but not the parcel yet | Nothing yet. If it stalls over 48h, check the handover |
| Received / Collected | PostNord physically has the parcel | Order is truly in transit now |
| In transit / Sorted | Parcel is moving through the network | Normal. No action needed |
| Out for delivery | On the vehicle for delivery today | Tell the customer to expect it |
| Available for pickup | Waiting at a service point or parcel locker | Remind the customer, note the pickup deadline |
| Delivered | Handed over or collected | Close the loop, invite a review |
| Return to sender | Uncollected or undeliverable, heading back | Reach out fast to arrange redelivery |
The "Informed" status trips up the most customers. It means the label was created and data was sent, but PostNord has not scanned the physical parcel yet. It is a data event, not a movement event.
What to do when a status stalls
Most tracking anxiety comes from a status that stops changing. Silence reads as a problem, even when nothing is wrong.
If a parcel sits at "Informed" for more than 48 hours, the parcel likely has not left your warehouse or 3PL. That is a handover issue, not a PostNord issue. Check your fulfillment side first.
If it stalls "In transit," give it time. Cross-border and remote-area parcels often go quiet between scans without any real delay. But if it sits still past the promised delivery window, that is the moment to message the customer proactively, before they message you.
The "Available for pickup" status has a hidden clock. PostNord holds parcels at service points for a limited number of days, then sends them back. A quiet reminder here prevents a return-to-sender and a refund request later.
Why the raw status feed is hard to use
PostNord's status codes are built for logistics operations, not for your customer's inbox. There are more of them than a shopper needs, and the wording is inconsistent across parcel types.
Two parcels can be in the same real-world state and show different words. One says "Sorted," another says "In transit." Your customer cannot tell if that difference matters. Usually it does not, but the ambiguity still generates tickets.
This is the core WISMO problem: "where is my order" messages come from status feeds that are accurate but not clear. For the bigger picture, see our explainer on what WISMO is and why it drives support volume and our overview of how carrier tracking statuses work across providers.
How Pango fits
Pango integrates PostNord and runs branded tracking with proactive notifications, live today. Instead of showing the raw PostNord feed, Pango normalizes the many differing carrier statuses, anywhere from around 10 to 115 codes depending on the carrier, into a short set of clear customer milestones. The customer sees "On its way" and "Ready to collect," not "Pre-advised" and "Sorted."
The proactive part matters most on the exceptions. When PostNord posts a delay or a parcel nears its pickup deadline, Pango can trigger a message automatically, so the customer hears from you before they start worrying. That turns a stalled scan into a helpful update instead of a support ticket. Pango also gives you analytics on where parcels slow down, so you can see which lanes and which stages cause the most delays.
If you need something outside the live modules, such as a custom rule that reroutes a specific PostNord service to a branded portal in a new market, that is build-to-fit. Pango reads your setup and builds it for you rather than offering it as a preset toggle. To see how tracking connects to the rest of your post-purchase flow, visit our order tracking product page.
The bottom line
PostNord's statuses are signals to act on, not just display. Pango integrates PostNord, normalizes the raw codes into clean milestones, and turns a delay scan into a proactive message before the WISMO ticket exists, on the same record that runs your delivery promises and returns.
