ASOS Tracking: Delivery Times, Statuses and Return Rules

ASOS keeps its tracking simple and its rules buried. The tracking link only exists after dispatch, the one named status is "It's Ordered", and the numbers that actually answer "where is my order", the delivery windows, the 30-day contact rule, the 28-day returns clock, and the new charged-returns thresholds, sit across a dozen help pages. Every quote below is ASOS's own wording, from dated captures of its help pages listed in our source ledger.

Short answer: "All UK delivery options are fully tracked and we'll email you a link to your tracking information once your parcel has left the warehouse." Before that email, "It's Ordered" just means packing: "we're busy getting your order together ready to be sent out." UK Standard delivery "is within 3 working days", US Standard "takes 5-8 business days". If the estimated date passes, ASOS asks for "a few extra days", and the hard rule is to contact them "within 30 days of your estimated delivery date."

The statuses, and why tracking looks empty

  • "It's Ordered." The warehouse phase. ASOS's own caveat: "During busy times, this status may show on your order for longer than usual – don't worry though, this shouldn't affect your estimated delivery date."
  • Dispatch email with tracking link. Tracking starts here, not at purchase. If you ordered twice, "your orders may be sent in one parcel", visible because both orders show the same tracking number. US orders can split: "you'll receive separate dispatch emails with different tracking numbers."
  • Blank tracking after dispatch: ASOS's own line is "there may be a delay with the update of your tracking – don't worry, it'll update soon. Please allow until the estimated delivery date."
  • Delivery day: with a valid mobile number, "our delivery partner will also send you SMS delivery notifications."

The carrier feed under the link is richer than the email. UK parcels ride mostly with Evri, and Click & Collect runs through Royal Mail, Evri ParcelShop and InPost. Decode the raw scans with carrier tracking statuses.

How long ASOS delivery takes, by option

OptionASOS's own numbers
UK Standard (£4.50, free over £40)"Within 3 working days", 5 working days for Highlands, islands and NI postcodes
UK Next Day (£5.95)"Delivered the very next day", Monday to Sunday, with postcode exclusions
ASOS Premier UK (£9.95/yr)Free Next Day and Nominated Day over £15, free Standard on everything
Click & Collect UKSame 3-working-day standard; held 18 days at Royal Mail, 10 at Evri ParcelShop, 72 hours at InPost
US Standard ($10, free over $20 with Premier)"5-8 business days", up to 14 for Alaska and Hawaii
US Express ($14.99)"3-4 business days", 5 for Alaska and Hawaii
Ireland Express (€14.00)"1-2 working days"

Next Day has a seasonal catch straight from ASOS: "Sometimes we may switch it off during busy periods – when that happens, choose 'Fastest Delivery' at checkout as the quickest option."

Order late or missing: the real thresholds

The estimated date is soft: "your order may arrive before, on, or slightly after your estimated delivery date." Once it passes, ASOS asks for patience first, "please give us a few extra days for your order to be delivered (especially during busy times)", and sets one hard deadline: "please get in touch with our Customer Care team within 30 days of your estimated delivery date." Miss that window and your claim gets harder. The widely-repeated "wait 48 hours" figure appears nowhere on ASOS's pages.

If nobody was home, the courier "will usually try to deliver more than once or leave a calling card... confirming whether they've left it with a neighbour or in a safe place." A parcel that boomerangs back to ASOS is refunded, not resent: "we'll automatically process your refund... We're unable to redeliver or resend returned parcels." For the delivered-but-missing checklist, see package says delivered but not received. One caution: ASOS's fair use policy explicitly monitors "complaints relating to unreceived orders, missing items", so only claim what is true.

Returns: 28 days, no exchanges, and the new fees

The core rules from ASOS's returns policy:

  • "You have 28 days from the day of delivery" (or collection availability) to return for a refund. After 28 days, "we don't accept returns for unwanted items."
  • "We don't offer exchanges." Return and reorder is the only path.
  • Refund timing: returns take "up to 10 calendar days" to reach the warehouse (14 from the US), then "your refund may take up to 10 working days to reach your account."
  • Return the whole order within 14 days and standard delivery fees are refunded too.

The big 2026 change is the Fair Use Policy: frequent returners now pay. If your return rate hits "70% or higher and you've placed 3 or more orders", ASOS "may deduct and retain £3.95 from your refund for each returned parcel (unless you keep more than £40 of your order)". At "80% or higher" with 5+ orders, "an additional £3.95 handling fee" stacks on top. It applies to orders from 6 January 2026 (5 February for Premier members), and US customers see a $4.99 version. Faulty items stay free to return.

The merchant view

ASOS is a live experiment every retailer should watch: published delivery windows per postcode tier, tracking withheld until dispatch, refund-not-resend on failed delivery, and now return fees targeted by customer behavior rather than blanket charges. That last one is the interesting part, because it prices the true cost of a return into the 2% of customers who create most of it, a pattern our guide on ecommerce return fraud covers in depth. What ASOS still does not offer is exchanges, leaving revenue on the table with every size miss.

Pango gives brands the machinery to run this playbook better: normalized tracking with proactive delay messages instead of a "give us a few extra days" FAQ, carrier routing per region, and exchange-first returns that keep the sale ASOS's refund-only policy loses.

The bottom line

ASOS tracking runs on three clocks: the dispatch email that starts it, the estimated date that governs it, and the 30-day contact window that ends your options. Add the 28-day returns clock and the new return-fee thresholds and the whole system fits on an index card. For brands that want this level of operational discipline with exchanges instead of refunds, see the post-purchase operations platform and book a demo.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about how Pango works, and what switching looks like.

It is being packed. ASOS says busy periods can leave orders in this status "for longer than usual" without affecting the estimated delivery date. Tracking only appears once the parcel leaves the warehouse.

UK Standard is within 3 working days (5 for remote postcodes), UK Next Day is next day including weekends, US Standard is 5 to 8 business days, and US Express 3 to 4. Each order also shows its own estimated date, which ASOS treats as the real benchmark.

In the UK, deliveries are handled by carriers including Evri, with Click & Collect through Royal Mail, Evri ParcelShop and InPost. US returns run through UPS. The tracking link tells you which carrier has your parcel.

Wait a few extra days past the estimated date, ASOS's own guidance, then contact Customer Care within 30 days of the estimated delivery date. That 30-day window is the hard limit.

For most customers returns stay free. Under the 2026 Fair Use Policy, customers returning 70% or more of 3+ orders can have £3.95 deducted per returned parcel, rising to an extra £3.95 handling fee at 80% of 5+ orders. The US version deducts $4.99. Faulty items are always free to return.
