ASOS Returns: How Many Days You Have, How to Return, Where to Drop Off, How to Track a Return, and How Long the Refund Takes

Three questions make up almost every search about ASOS returns: how many days you have, how to send the parcel back, and how long the refund takes. ASOS publishes all three on its customer care pages, in several places, with country exceptions and a fee policy that changed in 2026. This page collects them in one place, quoting ASOS's own wording, and adds the two things people ask next: how to track a return once it has gone, and what to do when the window is about to run out.

Short answer: You have 28 days from the day your order was delivered or made available for collection to return it to ASOS for a refund; if the order arrived in more than one parcel, the 28 days start when the final parcel is delivered. Create the return in ASOS's returns portal, choose from the returns options shown for your country, and keep proof of postage. ASOS does not offer exchanges: accepted returns are refunded. A returned parcel usually takes up to 21 working days to reach the warehouse and be processed, and the refund may then take up to 10 working days to reach your account. Guest checkouts carry a £3.95 returns fee, a returns charge applies in many countries, and frequent returners can lose £3.95 per parcel under the Fair Use Policy.

How many days you have

ASOS's returns policy gives "28 days from the day of delivery or the day the order becomes available for collection at your nominated store or collection point to return an item to us for a refund". For orders delivered in multiple parcels, the 28-day returns timeframe starts when the final parcel is delivered or available for collection. After the window, ASOS does not accept returns for unwanted items; if you created the return in time but could not send it for an extenuating reason, ASOS asks you to get in touch, and any refund is at its discretion.

Two shorter clocks sit inside the 28 days. If you paid for delivery and return the entire order within 14 days of receiving it, ASOS also refunds the standard delivery fee. And if ASOS has offered you a size exchange in a category where it does, the unwanted item has to be sent back within 14 days of the exchange request. Outside that, ASOS's own words are plain: "We don't offer exchanges – all accepted returns will be refunded."

How to return

  1. Create the return in the returns portal. Use ASOS's returns platform and follow the instructions on screen; on the website and the iOS app you will also see a comment box asking for feedback on the item.
  2. Choose a returns option for your country. ASOS shows all the returns options once you select the country you are returning from. In the UK the options include arranging a collection; in countries without the portal's carriers, ASOS says to return through your local post office using the returns note.
  3. Pack it with the returns note. If a returns note came with the parcel, put it back in; a new one can be downloaded from ASOS.
  4. Keep proof of postage. The parcel is your responsibility until it reaches ASOS. If your postal service does not give proof of postage and you created the label online, the returns portal's tracking number is your proof.
  5. Returning from outside the UK? Mark the parcel as "returned goods" to avoid being charged duties on the way back.

Items must be in original condition and comply with ASOS's Fair Use Policy; certain hygiene items cannot be returned, and ASOS or the ASOS Brand Partner inspects every return.

The fees

SituationWhat ASOS deducts or charges
UK return in original condition, registered accountFree, subject to the Fair Use Policy
Guest checkout£3.95 returns fee, deducted from the refund
Returning from many other countriesA returns charge, deducted from the refund; ASOS notes that "in most countries, we don't offer free returns"
Hong Kong and New ZealandA small returns charge deducted from the refund; from New Zealand the parcel should reach ASOS within 15 calendar days
Frequent returner under the Fair Use Policy£3.95 retained per returned parcel once your return rate is 70% or higher over 3 or more orders, unless you keep more than £40 of the order; an additional £3.95 handling fee at 80% or higher over 5 or more orders; faulty items stay free

The Fair Use fees apply to orders from 6 January 2026 (5 February for Premier members), with a $4.99 version for US customers; the detail is on ASOS delivery tracking.

How to track an ASOS return

If you returned with a trackable method, you can follow the parcel with the tracking number the returns portal generated, on the carrier's tracking page. ASOS does not show a return-by-return timeline in your account; the signal that the return has arrived is the refund email. Allow the full 21 working days before chasing: that is ASOS's own figure for a returned parcel to reach the warehouse and be processed. If the carrier shows the parcel delivered to ASOS and 21 working days have passed with no refund, contact ASOS customer care with the order number and the proof of postage.

How long the refund takes

Two stages. First, the parcel travels and is processed: "it usually takes up to 21 working days for a returned parcel to reach our warehouse and be processed", and ASOS says it aims to refund within 14 days of receiving the returned item. Second, the money moves: "your refund may take up to 10 working days to reach your account", depending on your bank or payment provider. Refunds go to the original payment method; if the original delivery address was a collection point or store, replacement items in an exchange are sent to the default delivery address on your account.

Returning from Ireland, the US and elsewhere

The 28-day window applies everywhere; what changes is the fee and the carrier. Ireland and other EU customers see the returns options for their country in the portal and may see a returns charge deducted; delivery, customs and the Irish specifics are in ASOS customs charges in Ireland. US returns follow the same portal flow with the $4.99 Fair Use version. For delivery windows and the Next Day cut-off rule, see ASOS delivery times.

For merchants

ASOS's returns page is a model of the questions every fashion brand gets: how many days, how to send it, where, what it costs, where is my refund. Notice what it does not offer: exchanges, a return-by-return timeline, or a refund before the warehouse has processed the parcel, which is why "how long does an ASOS refund take" is a search family of its own. A brand that wants fewer of those tickets gives the customer three things ASOS does not: a return that can be an exchange, a tracking page that follows the return parcel and says when the refund is coming, and a refund triggered by the carrier's first scan rather than the warehouse's last one. Pango runs returns and exchanges that way, with the return tracked on the same page as the order and the refund timing shown to the customer. If returns are generating tickets in your store, the software category to compare is returns management software, and how to write the policy itself is in how to write a return policy.

The bottom line

Twenty-eight days from delivery, counted from the last parcel; create the return in the portal, pick your country's option, keep proof of postage; no exchanges; up to 21 working days to the warehouse and up to 10 working days for the refund to land; and watch the fees if you check out as a guest, return from abroad, or return most of what you buy.

Clearance processing completed is express-courier wording for a customs milestone. What each version means, the misspelt 'clearence' variants, what comes next, how long the remaining leg takes, whether anything is owed, and when to act.
