Zara runs its own order tracking inside your account and its emails, and only hands you a carrier tracking number late in the journey, if at all. So the statuses you see are Zara's, not the courier's, and they describe the order from the warehouse's point of view. This guide explains each Zara order status in plain English, quotes Zara's own definitions, and lays out the delivery options and timings Zara publishes so you know when "being prepared" has gone on too long.
Short answer: A Zara order moves through "purchased", "being processed", "being prepared" (the warehouse is picking and packing it), "shipped from the warehouse", "out with the courier" (delivery is imminent) and "delivered to the customer". Zara publishes a delivery estimate at checkout and updates you by email at each step. Store pickup is free and takes 3 to 5 working days, with 15 days to collect using your QR code; home delivery is 2 to 4 working days as standard or next day for a fee, and deliveries are made on business days only.
Zara order statuses in English
Zara's US help centre defines the statuses in one line each, and they read the same across markets:
| Zara status | Zara's own definition | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Purchased | "you have completed your purchase correctly" | Payment went through; nothing has moved yet |
| Being processed | "we received your order information" | The order is in Zara's system and queued for the warehouse |
| Being prepared | "your order is being prepared in the warehouse" | Picking and packing. This is the longest pre-shipment stage |
| Shipped from the warehouse | "the order has already left our facilities" | On its way to the courier or the store |
| Out with the courier | "your order is on its way, you will receive it shortly" | Delivery is imminent, often the same or next day |
| Delivered to the customer | "your order was delivered" | Done. Check with household members or the building if you do not have it |
Zara adds: "Remember you will receive your order updates by email." For store and delivery-point orders, a separate notification tells you when the parcel is ready to collect.
How long each stage should take
Zara gives an estimated delivery date at checkout rather than a per-stage promise, so judge each status against that date and against the option you chose. Zara's published US delivery options are the reference:
- Shipment to a Zara store: "Time: 3-5 working days", "Cost: FREE". Zara shows the available stores and the estimated date at checkout, and "you have 15 days to pick up the order at the store" by presenting your Zara QR or the QR from the electronic receipt. Someone collecting for you must also show identification. Not available for orders with a large HOME item.
- Home delivery: next-day delivery at $14.95 or $19.95 depending on address ($25.00 for Alaska and Hawaii), or "delivery in 2-4 working days" at $4.95. Large HOME items carry their own shipping cost.
- Shipment to a delivery point: "2-4 working days", $4.95, with identification required at pickup and written authorisation plus a copy of your ID if someone else collects.
Two rules apply to every option: "deliveries are only made on business days", and the delivery address must be in the same market where you placed the order. Prices and windows differ by country; check the help centre for your market.
So: "being prepared" for a day or two is normal, and longer around sales and launches. "Shipped from the warehouse" to "out with the courier" is the carrier leg and should fit inside the window you paid for. If the estimated date has passed and the status has not reached "out with the courier", contact Zara through your order page.
Where the carrier fits
Zara's statuses stop at the warehouse door and pick up again at delivery. In between, a carrier moves the parcel, and Zara may show its tracking number or a link. Which carrier depends on the market, and each has its own vocabulary: for the common ones see our guides to DHL, DPD, Evri, Correos, Colissimo and UPS, or the full carrier tracking statuses library. If the carrier's tracking says delivered and you do not have it, follow package says delivered but not received.
What to do when an order stalls
- Stuck on "being processed" or "being prepared" past the estimated date: contact Zara from the order in your account or the "Manage your order" link in your confirmation email. Zara resolves warehouse delays; the courier cannot.
- "Shipped" but no courier movement for several days: check the carrier's own tracking if Zara shows a number, then contact Zara; the carrier's contract is with Zara.
- Store or delivery-point order ready for pickup: collect within the window. For store pickup Zara gives 15 days; delivery points set their own, shown in Zara's notification.
- Returns: Zara's return options and windows are set per market in the help centre; the general rules for exchange-first returns and refund timing are in how to write a return policy.
The merchant view
Zara's status set is a good model for any brand: six plain statuses written from the customer's point of view, an estimated date at checkout, and an email at each step. What it deliberately hides is the carrier leg, which is also where most "where is my order" questions come from. Brands that cannot afford Zara's own logistics can still copy the pattern: show your own plain milestones, translate the carrier's scans into them, and message the customer at the steps that predict a question.
That is what Pango does for brands on Shopify and other platforms: one normalised set of milestones across 100+ carriers, proactive messages at handover, delay and delivery, and exchange-first returns on the same order record. The support cost of showing raw carrier statuses instead is in what is WISMO, and the checkout side of the delivery promise is in what a delivery promise is.
The bottom line
Zara's six statuses tell you exactly where the order is from the warehouse's point of view, and the checkout estimate tells you when to worry. "Being prepared" is packing, "shipped" is the handover, "out with the courier" is delivery day. For everything in between, the carrier's own statuses fill the gap.
