What Does 'In Transit' Mean on Vinted? What the Status Covers, How Long It Can Last by Vinted's Own Rules, Whether Vinted Tells You When an Item Is Shipped, and How Long the Drop-Off Code Takes

"In transit" is the Vinted status buyers stare at longest, because it appears a day or two after the seller sends the parcel and then does not change for what feels like too long. This page explains what the status covers on Vinted, how long it can last by Vinted's own rules, what to do when it has gone on too long, whether and how Vinted tells a buyer that an item has been shipped, and how long the shipping label or drop-off code takes to generate on the seller's side. Every Vinted rule below is quoted from Vinted's UK help centre, fetched on 2026-10-26, or carried from the live Vinted tracking statuses hub's sources.

Short answer: On Vinted, "in transit" means the seller has sent the parcel with the prepaid Vinted label and the carrier's tracking shows it moving through the network; it covers everything between the drop-off and the delivery or pickup-point scan. By Vinted's own rules it is normal for a long time: "it may take up to 25 business days (excluding weekends and holidays) for a parcel to arrive", and "if the parcel was sent less than 25 business days ago, it's likely still in transit". Tracking itself "can take up to 48 hours" to first appear after the seller sends the parcel. Vinted does tell the buyer: both sides track the parcel in the order's conversation screen, and the carrier pages say "the buyer will be notified when the parcel arrives". On the seller's side, the label or drop-off QR code "might take up to 4 calendar days" to be generated, "usually within 24 hours", and weekend orders get it on Monday.

What "in transit" covers on Vinted

Vinted's statuses are few and broad. "Shipped" is the seller having sent the parcel or confirmed sending; "in transit" is the stretch after that, while the carrier the buyer chose at checkout moves the parcel through its network; "delivered" is the handover or the pickup-point arrival, which starts a two-day confirmation window. "In transit" therefore covers every carrier scan between the drop-off and the delivery: collected, at a depot, at a hub, out for delivery. Vinted does not translate those into its own feed; the detail is on the carrier's tracking page, which both buyer and seller can open from the conversation. The carrier pages say it plainly: "both you and the buyer will be able to track the parcel in the conversation screen" and "please allow up to 48 hours after sending for the tracking to appear on Vinted".

How long "in transit" can last, by Vinted's rules

Three Vinted numbers set the expectation. First, tracking appears late: "after a parcel is sent, it can take up to 48 hours for tracking information to appear", so a parcel can be "shipped" with nothing behind it for two days. Second, transit is long by design: Vinted's guidance is to "wait up to 25 business days from the day the order was marked as 'shipped'", and "if the parcel was sent less than 25 business days ago, it's likely still in transit"; the live hub carries the shorter 21-business-day rule for custom, non-integrated shipping. Third, typical times are much shorter than the limit: the live delivery-time guide carries Vinted's own line that domestic shipping typically takes 2 to 5 business days and international 4 to 8, with weekends and public holidays not counted. So "in transit" for a week is ordinary; "in transit" past 25 business days is the point at which Vinted's own process starts. The full breakdown by carrier and country is in how long does Vinted take to deliver.

What to do when it has been in transit too long

  1. Under 48 hours since "shipped" and no tracking. Normal; wait.
  2. Under 25 business days, tracking quiet. Open the carrier's tracking from the conversation; a quiet feed inside the carrier's own window is not a loss. Why carrier feeds go quiet, and when a parcel is actually stuck, is in why is my package stuck in transit.
  3. Over 25 business days, or the status changes to "Parcel seems to be lost". Vinted's instruction, carried from the hub: press "I have an issue" on the conversation screen; "if the parcel hasn't arrived, press 'I have an issue' to cancel the order". Vinted's refund policy, as the hub quotes it, is "you'll get a full refund if the order is confirmed as lost, damaged, or not received". You do not chase the carrier yourself.
  4. "Delivered" and nothing received. You have two days to report it from the conversation; the pickup-point and safe-place checks are in the hub.

Does Vinted tell you when an item is shipped?

Yes, in two ways. The order's status changes to "shipped" when the seller sends the parcel or presses "I confirm that I've sent this order", and the conversation screen shows "Track parcel" with the carrier's number once tracking appears, which can take up to 48 hours. The carrier pages also state that "the buyer will be notified when the parcel arrives", and for lockers that "you'll be notified via email and SMS when your parcel arrives". If the seller has not sent within the deadline, Vinted acts on it: "once you receive an order, you'll have 5 business days to send the item. Unfortunately, if you miss this deadline, the order will be cancelled automatically", and if tracking does not appear within 4 business days after the seller presses the confirm button, "the order will be cancelled automatically".

How long does it take Vinted to generate a drop-off code?

On the seller's side, the label or QR code is generated by Vinted after the sale, not by the seller: "after you make a sale, we'll send a pre-paid Vinted-generated shipping label to your email and Vinted inbox", and for drop-off carriers the seller presses "Get shipping label" in the conversation and receives "a QR code in your Vinted app and email to send the item". The timing, from Vinted's "order is not updating" article: "it might take up to 4 calendar days for the label to be generated", "usually you'll get an update within 24 hours", and "if you start an order on a weekend, the shipping label will be generated on Monday". At the drop-off point the seller shows the code: "show the QR code to the staff at the drop-off point and they'll print the shipping label for your parcel", or at a locker "scan the QR code to open a locker compartment". Once generated, "you can't swap it for a different carrier's label or a different drop-off method", as the hub carries. Label errors and their fixes are in the hub.

For merchants

Vinted's "in transit" is a marketplace status that hides every carrier scan behind one word for up to 25 business days, and buyers write in because the word does not change. A brand selling on its own site faces the same problem whenever its tracking page shows the carrier's raw feed or a single "in transit": the fix is a page on the brand's domain with named milestones and the expected date, and a message when a delay scan arrives rather than when the customer asks. Pango normalises the statuses of every connected carrier into one milestone set, shows them on the brand's own tracking page, and sends the delay and failed-attempt messages automatically. If "in transit" is generating tickets, the options to compare are in carrier management software.

The bottom line

"In transit" on Vinted is one word for the whole carrier journey, and Vinted gives it up to 25 business days. Tracking appears within 48 hours, the drop-off code within 4 calendar days, and the buyer is told at "shipped" and at arrival. Read the carrier's own feed for the detail, and use "I have an issue" only past the 25-day line or when Vinted itself says the parcel seems lost.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about how Pango works, and what switching looks like.

The seller has sent the parcel and the carrier is moving it through its network; it covers every scan between the drop-off and the delivery or pickup-point arrival.

By Vinted's rules, up to 25 business days excluding weekends and holidays before it is treated as lost; typical domestic times are much shorter. Tracking can take 48 hours to appear.

Check the carrier's tracking from the conversation. After 25 business days, or if the status says "Parcel seems to be lost", press "I have an issue"; a confirmed loss is refunded in full.

Yes: the status changes to "shipped", "Track parcel" appears in the conversation once tracking does, and the carrier pages say the buyer is notified when the parcel arrives.

Vinted says up to 4 calendar days, usually within 24 hours, and weekend orders get the label on Monday. The seller then shows the QR code at the drop-off point or locker.

No. Vinted says that once the label has been generated it cannot be swapped for a different carrier's label or drop-off method.
