"How long does River Island take to deliver" is answered on River Island's own delivery, returns, Unlimited Delivery and FAQ pages, and this page collects the answers in one place: every UK delivery option with its price and timing, the cut-offs, Unlimited Delivery, how tracking works, the carriers River Island names, the returns window and fee, and what River Island says to do when an order is late. Every fact is quoted from riverisland.com, fetched on 2026-10-29. Where two River Island pages give different cut-offs, both are shown with the page each comes from.
Short answer: River Island's UK Standard Delivery is "delivered within 5 working days", £4 or "FREE on orders over £15 (excludes sale and markdown)". Next and Nominated Day delivery is £5; the delivery page says "order by 7pm on weekdays or 5pm on weekends for next day", while the Unlimited Delivery page says to order before 10pm on weekdays and 5pm on weekends "for the best chance of securing Next Day Delivery". A delivery time slot costs £6 and can be picked "7 days in advance". Collection from a River Island store is free over £15 and ready within 5 working days; collection from more than 1,000 local shops and lockers, "including Evri and InPost", is £4 standard or £5 next day, with "Order by 6pm for express delivery with selected services". Unlimited Delivery gives next or nominated day "with no minimum spend required" for 12 months and does not auto-renew; its price is not stated on the Unlimited Delivery page. Tracking: "Enter your order number and the postcode used for the delivery address to view the latest tracking information." Returns: "within 28 days of delivery or store purchase", free in UK stores, or £2.95 to drop off through the returns portal. Late orders: "allow until 9pm on your expected delivery date".

The Next Day cut-off: two River Island pages, two times
River Island's delivery page says: "Order by 7pm on weekdays or 5pm on weekends for next day". Its Unlimited Delivery page says to order before 10pm on weekdays and 5pm on weekends "for the best chance of securing Next Day Delivery", with both times marked by an asterisk. Both are River Island's own wording on the day we read them. The same page says: "Your expected delivery date will always be confirmed at checkout when you place the order." That checkout date is the one that applies.
Unlimited Delivery
From River Island's own page: "Enjoy Unlimited Delivery for 12 months, no minimum spend." "Every order placed, Next or Nominated Day delivery to your door or chosen store is always available - with no minimum spend required." It is added at checkout ("Add and subscribe to Unlimited Delivery at checkout"), it is UK-only, and it does not auto-renew: "Your Unlimited Delivery pass won't automatically renew after the year's up." The price is not stated on the Unlimited Delivery page we read. Cancellation, from River Island's FAQ: "you can cancel within 14 days for a full refund if you have not used the subscription; if you have used it, the refund is reduced to reflect that use."
How tracking works, and the carriers River Island names
River Island's FAQ: "Enter your order number and the postcode used for the delivery address to view the latest tracking information." For collection, River Island emails when the order is ready; "if you've received your order and despatch emails but your Ready to collect email hasn't arrived, allow until 9pm on your estimated collection date." The carriers River Island names on the pages we read are Evri and InPost (for shop and locker collection) and, for returns, Evri, InPost and Royal Mail; its delivery page does not name the carrier for home delivery, so the despatch email and the tracking page are the statement of which carrier has the parcel. What each carrier's statuses mean is on its hub: Evri tracking statuses, InPost tracking statuses, Royal Mail tracking statuses. What "out for delivery" promises on each carrier is in does out for delivery mean today.
Returns: window, fee and method
From River Island's returns page: "Items can be returned within 28 days of delivery or store purchase", and "Items should be clean, unworn and with tags still attached", with "your original receipt or despatch confirmation email" as proof of purchase. Returning to a UK River Island store is free (excluding Jersey and Isle of Man). Dropping off a return through the returns portal costs £2.95 on River Island's UK returns page: "The return charge will be deducted automatically from your refunded amount once we have processed your return at our warehouse." River Island adds: "Returns via the returns portal are tracked" and "Remember to drop off your return within 14 days." The drop-off methods River Island's terms list without a printer are an InPost locker, Royal Mail drop-off or Evri drop-off. For Ireland, the same page says: "Returns are subject to a €9.00 charge." Seasonal extension: "all online and in-store purchases from the 22nd October can be returned for a refund to a gift card until the 14th January." Refund timing: "Once we've emailed you to confirm your refund, it can take up to 5 days for the money to appear back in your account." Exchanges are made in store: "Return or exchange your items to any of our UK stores (excluding Jersey and Isle of Man)."
When a River Island order is late
River Island's own rules. "If tracking is still updating, allow until 9pm on your expected delivery date for your order to arrive." "If you've been given a delivery date range, allow until 9pm on the final day of that range." River Island's terms also cover a standard-delivery order that "fails to arrive within 10 days (UK only)". For collection, the terms say orders "must be collected from Your chosen River Island store or local shop within 14 days after You are notified to collect Your Order". The FAQ adds that an uncollected order "will be returned to our warehouse and the refund will be issued on a River Island digital gift card". For a parcel marked delivered that you do not have, check the safe place, neighbours and the shop or locker, then contact River Island; the checklist is in package says delivered but not received.
For merchants
River Island's pages show the hard part of a published promise: two pages, two cut-offs for the same service. A brand's checkout promise has to come from one place, computed per order from the carrier's live cut-off and the warehouse's measured handover time, and every help page has to quote that, or the shopper finds the contradiction before the ticket does. Pango controls the shipping methods, prices and ETAs shown at checkout, normalises the statuses of every connected carrier on a branded tracking page on the brand's own domain, and sends proactive notifications, with a delay able to trigger an apology, an alert to customer service or a workflow; the returns policy a brand writes, with its window and fee, is the subject of how to write a return policy.
The bottom line
River Island publishes 5 working days for standard delivery, free over £15, next and nominated day for £5, a £6 time slot, free store collection, and a 28-day returns window. Its two pages disagree on the next-day cut-off, so trust the date at checkout, track by order number and postcode, and wait until 9pm on the expected day before chasing.
