Some tracking updates read like internal shorthand, because they are. "Hub scan", "air hub", "abnormal parcel scan", "departure scan" and similar codes leak out of carrier systems onto customer tracking pages. Here is what they actually mean.
Short answer: A hub scan means your parcel was scanned at a carrier's sorting hub, a large facility where parcels are sorted between routes. It is normal, mid-journey movement. Air hub means the same at an air-freight facility. Departure/arrival scans record a parcel leaving or reaching a facility. The only one that genuinely signals a problem is an abnormal parcel scan (or exception scan), which means the parcel was flagged as damaged, mislabelled, oversized, or otherwise unable to follow the normal route.

Why you see internal codes at all
Carriers generate scans for their own operations, not for shoppers. Every time a parcel passes a checkpoint, a scanner logs an event with a code. Most tracking pages simply forward that raw feed, which is why you get "7S hub scan" instead of "sorted, on its way".

Which scans mean something is wrong

- Abnormal parcel scan / exception scan. The parcel was pulled aside, commonly for damage, an unreadable or wrong label, or being outside size limits. This behaves like a delivery exception: read the detail line, and contact the retailer if it does not clear in a day or two.
