Loop Returns vs AfterShip Returns (2026): Exchanges, Labels and Drop-Off, Return Rules, Analytics, Shopify Fit and Pricing Compared, Plus AfterShip vs Happy Returns and Happy Returns vs Loop

Loop and AfterShip Returns both give a Shopify brand a branded returns portal, exchanges, return labels and rules, so the comparison comes down to depth, price and who each is built for. Every vendor statement on this page is quoted from that vendor's own website or its own Shopify App Store listing, read on 2026-10-30. Each vendor's comparison pages about the other are not used, outcome percentages are not repeated, and where a vendor's pages do not state something, the table says so. The three-way view with Narvar is in Narvar vs Loop Returns vs AfterShip.

Short answer: Loop is an exchange-first returns platform for Shopify brands ("Loop was and is currently for Shopify brands"), with Instant Exchanges, Shop Now exchanges "for any product in your catalog", printerless QR returns and box-free drop-off at Return Bars, priced from "$340 per month" for "Up to 1,000 returns" on its website. AfterShip Returns is a lower-entry returns app with a published ladder on its Shopify listing, from "Essentials $19 / month", including 20 returns a month, to "Premium $119 / month", including 100, with variant exchanges on every plan and Shop Now and Instant exchanges on Premium. Pick AfterShip Returns for a growing store that wants to start cheaply and add features by plan; pick Loop for a Shopify brand where exchanges and keeping revenue are the point and return volume justifies the price. Both connect to Happy Returns for label-free, box-free drop-off. Pango is the alternative when returns should run on the same system as the outbound shipment, the carriers and the warehouse.

Free for DTC brands: Pango runs the shipping and returns audit on your own order and carrier data as part of a demo: fifteen numbers across checkout, carriers, warehouse handover, tracking and returns, the three that matter most for your operation, and the same orders shown running on one system. Two notes on the table. AfterShip's website prices its plans on annual billing ($16 and $99 a month) while its Shopify listing shows monthly prices ($19 and $119); both are AfterShip's own, and the listing's figures are shown. Loop's pages differ on how fast a launch is (its FAQ says "15 to 45 days"), so no launch time is compared here.

Which fits which brand

  • A growing Shopify store with under about 100 returns a month: AfterShip Returns. Its entry plan is priced for low volume, includes variant exchanges, and the next plan adds Shop Now and Instant exchanges when they are worth paying for.
  • A Shopify brand where exchanges are the strategy: Loop. Exchanges for any product, Instant Exchanges and Shop Now are the centre of the product on every page, and the pricing assumes return volume in the hundreds or thousands a month.
  • A brand on BigCommerce, Adobe Commerce or Salesforce Commerce Cloud: both list other platforms; Loop describes them as available beyond its Shopify core, AfterShip lists native integrations.
  • A brand whose return problem is the shipping, not the portal: if returns are slow because the return label, the carrier and the warehouse receipt run on different systems from the outbound order, neither portal changes that; see the Pango section below.

AfterShip vs Happy Returns

These are different kinds of product that work together. Happy Returns, which describes itself as "a UPS Company", runs a drop-off network: "nearly 10,000 convenient Return Bar® locations nationwide, including 5,000+ The UPS Store® retail locations", with "No boxes, no labels, no hassles", plus its own returns portal with "One-click exchanges" and store credit. It publishes no pricing and has no app on the Shopify App Store; its site says it partners with returns platforms: "We have partnerships with AfterShip, Loop, parcelLab, and more." AfterShip Returns lists "Label-free drop off with Happy Returns" on its plans, and its help article says the merchant needs to "contact our sales team and sign a contract with Happy Returns®" to switch it on. The choice is rarely one or the other: AfterShip runs the portal and rules, Happy Returns can be the drop-off option inside it.

Happy Returns vs Loop

The same relationship applies. Loop's returns page says brands can "integrate partners like Happy Returns for box-less returns", and Loop's pricing lists box-free, label-free drop-off at Return Bars. Happy Returns names Loop among its partners. The difference from Loop as a whole is scope: Loop is a returns and exchanges platform for Shopify brands with published pricing; Happy Returns is a drop-off network with a portal aimed at enterprise retailers ("We help enterprise retailers simplify returns through our nationwide Return Bar® network"), sold by contacting sales.

Pango as the alternative

Loop and AfterShip Returns both cover the portal, exchanges, labels and rules, so the honest difference is not a feature on the portal. It is where the return runs. Both sit on top of the logistics: they issue the label and read the carrier's scans. Pango runs the logistics, with the return on the same order record as the outbound shipment: returns and exchanges with natural-language return and exchange rules compiled into per-merchant workflows, exchange to any product in the store, labels, cross-border documents and refund logic per merchant and per country, alongside checkout delivery options, multi-carrier routing across more than 100 carriers through prebuilt connectors, warehouse pick and pack, and branded tracking on the merchant's domain. Pango is not an order management system; it sits on top of the store's OMS. Pricing is on pango.ai/pricing. The Loop-specific view is in Loop Returns alternatives and the AfterShip-specific one in AfterShip Returns alternatives.

The bottom line

AfterShip Returns is the lower-cost entry with features added by plan; Loop is the exchange-first platform for Shopify brands with the volume to justify it; Happy Returns is the drop-off network either can plug in. If the cost of returns sits in labels, carriers and warehouse receipt rather than in the portal, compare them with a system that runs those steps too.
