AliExpress 'Awaiting Delivery' Meaning: What It Says, Where the Parcel Is, How Long It Lasts, 'Parcel at Destination Depot - Awaiting Delivery' and 'Awaiting Delivery to the Customs Clearance Agent'

"Awaiting delivery" is the AliExpress status people search most, in six different phrasings, because the words promise a delivery and the parcel is usually still in China. This page answers each phrasing as its own question: what AliExpress itself says the status means, where in the journey the parcel is, how long the status lasts and when to contact the seller, and then the two tracking scans that reuse the words "awaiting delivery" for a different stage, "parcel at destination depot - awaiting delivery" and "the goods have arrived at the local airport and are awaiting delivery to the customs clearance agent". AliExpress's wording is quoted from its own help pages, fetched on 2026-10-24; the full status sequence is in AliExpress tracking statuses.

Short answer: On an AliExpress order, "awaiting delivery" is the order status after the seller has shipped. AliExpress's own definition: "This status indicates that the item has been handed over to the shipping carrier and is waiting to be picked up and shipped to the buyer." It means the seller is done and the logistics network has the parcel, not that a courier is about to knock. The order stays on "awaiting delivery" for the whole journey, which can be weeks on cross-border shipping, and AliExpress's own guidance is to contact the seller if nothing moves for more than a week. The two long scan strings are different: "parcel at destination depot - awaiting delivery" is a carrier scan in your country, at the local depot before the delivery round, and "arrived at the local airport and are awaiting delivery to the customs clearance agent" is a Cainiao scan at the destination airport, queued for customs.

What does "awaiting delivery" mean on AliExpress?

It is the order-level status that replaces "awaiting shipment" once the seller has handed the parcel over. AliExpress's help page defines it as the item having "been handed over to the shipping carrier" and "waiting to be picked up and shipped to the buyer", and summarises it as the order having "been processed" and being "now in the logistics system, waiting to be shipped". In practice the status covers everything from the seller's drop-off to the day the parcel reaches you: the detail of where it is comes from the tracking events underneath, not from the order status. The status before it, "awaiting shipment", means the seller is still preparing the order; that stage and its two deadlines are in awaiting seller handover meaning.

"Awaiting delivery AliExpress", "AliExpress awaiting delivery"

Same status, searched as a label. The parcel has left the seller and is in the carrier's or consolidator's hands. The first scans after it are the origin-country ones: collected, arrived at or departed from a sorting centre, then the airline legs. Multi-day silence between those scans is normal on economy cross-border services; the pattern, carrier by carrier, is in Cainiao tracking statuses.

"Awaiting delivery meaning AliExpress": how long it lasts

Two clocks run under this status. The first is the handover: AliExpress's help page says that moving from "awaiting delivery" to the first shipped scan "can take anywhere from 1 to 5 business days" on average, and advises to "contact the seller if the status remains Awaiting Delivery for more than a week" without tracking movement. The second is the journey itself, which AliExpress's shipping-time guide describes as ranging "from a few days to several weeks, depending on the shipping method, destination country, stock availability, and customs processing", with customs delays "often outside the seller's control". The order status will read "awaiting delivery" for all of it. The number to watch is the estimated delivery date on the order, not the status.

"Parcel at destination depot - awaiting delivery"

This is a carrier scan, not the AliExpress order status, and it appears late in the journey: the parcel is in your country, at the depot of the carrier that will deliver it, waiting for the delivery round or for a collection point to receive it. It sits between the border stage and "out for delivery" in the sequence AliExpress and Cainiao tracking show: arrived at destination country, customs clearance, handed over to local carrier, arrived at local depot, out for delivery, delivered. Neither AliExpress's help pages nor Cainiao's define this exact string, so its position is read from the stages they do define; what we can say is that it is the last quiet stage before the delivery attempt. If you chose a pickup point, the next event is the collection notice, and AliExpress's own guidance is that the package "is usually available for pickup within 3-7 business days" of reaching the point; what to do with a parcel waiting to be collected is in awaiting collection meaning.

"The goods have arrived at the local airport and are awaiting delivery to the customs clearance agent"

This is a Cainiao scan at the destination airport: the parcel has landed in your country and is queued to be handed to the customs broker that lodges the import declaration. "Delivery" here means delivery to the agent, not to you. It corresponds to the stage the Cainiao hub calls "arrived at destination country", followed by "customs clearance". The next scans are the import clearance ones ("import customs clearance started", "customs clearance completed"), and the stage after that is the handover to the local carrier. Under three business days in the customs queue is normal and needs nothing from you; if the parcel is held longer, or you are asked to pay duty, the stage-by-stage reading is in customs clearance meaning. Cainiao's own pages do not define this string either, and the page says so rather than inventing a timing.

What to do at each stage

  1. "Awaiting delivery" with no tracking events for up to a week. Normal; the seller's handover and the consolidator's first scan take days. AliExpress's advice is to contact the seller if it passes a week.
  2. Tracking events in China, then silence. The international leg; a week of silence is routine on economy services.
  3. "Arrived at the local airport, awaiting delivery to the customs clearance agent". Wait; under three business days is normal. Pay duty only through the carrier's own channel if asked.
  4. "Parcel at destination depot - awaiting delivery". Delivery is close. Be reachable, and check the local carrier's own tracking with the number AliExpress shows.
  5. The estimated delivery date passes with no delivery. Open the order and use AliExpress's dispute process within the protection window; the hub explains the window.
  6. Delivered, nothing received. Check the pickup point, neighbours and the safe place named in the scan, then the seller the same day; the checklist is in package says delivered but not received.

For merchants

"Awaiting delivery" is a marketplace status that says nothing for weeks, and the long carrier strings underneath it say too much in the wrong words. A brand that ships cross-border on the same networks inherits both problems unless it writes its own milestones. The fix is to show the customer one record that carries the linehaul and the last-mile tracking together, in plain words ("landed in your country, in customs, with the local carrier, out for delivery"), and to send the cross-border handover and delay messages automatically. Pango normalises the statuses of every connected carrier into one milestone set, stitches the international and the last-mile numbers on one order record, and sends those messages in the customer's language. If this vocabulary is generating tickets, the options to compare are in carrier management software.

The bottom line

"Awaiting delivery" on AliExpress means shipped and in the network, not arriving. The two scan strings that borrow the words sit at opposite ends of the journey: the airport one is the customs queue, the depot one is the last stop before your door. Read the tracking events and the estimated date; contact the seller after a week without movement, and dispute only when the date has passed.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about how Pango works, and what switching looks like.

In AliExpress's own words, the item "has been handed over to the shipping carrier and is waiting to be picked up and shipped to the buyer". The seller is done; the parcel is in the logistics network.

No. It is the order status for the whole journey after shipping, which can take weeks cross-border. Watch the estimated delivery date and the tracking events, not the status.

AliExpress says the move to the first shipped scan takes 1 to 5 business days on average, and advises contacting the seller after a week without movement. The status itself stays until delivery.

A carrier scan in your country: the parcel is at the local carrier's depot, waiting for the delivery round or a collection point. The next scan is usually "out for delivery" or a collection notice.

A Cainiao scan: the parcel has landed in your country and is queued for the customs broker. "Delivery" means delivery to the agent. Under three business days there is normal.

When the estimated delivery date on the order has passed with no delivery, within the protection window AliExpress shows on the order.
