AfterShip and Malomo both replace the carrier's tracking page with a branded one on a Shopify store and send the shipping notifications. The difference is the model. AfterShip is a multi-carrier tracking app with a free tier and plans priced per shipment. Malomo is a Shopify-native tracking page builder sold on shipment-volume plans, with messages routed through the email and SMS tools the brand already uses. Every vendor statement on this page is quoted from that vendor's own website or its own Shopify App Store listing, read on 2026-11-04. Each vendor's claims about the other are not used. The Malomo-specific view is in Malomo alternative, Malomo against Narvar is in Narvar vs Malomo, the AfterShip-specific view is in AfterShip alternative, and the wider list is in best order tracking apps for Shopify.
Short answer: On its Shopify listing AfterShip is "Free to install" with "50 shipments/month" on the free plan, then "$11 / month" for 100 shipments a month and "$70 / month" for 500, and the listing carries the "Built for Shopify" badge. Malomo's listing shows "Free" and no plan table, and its website prices the product by volume: "Lite Plan: $49/mo for 1,000 shipments", "Starter Plan: $189/mo for 4,000 shipments" and a Growth tier "Starting at $400 billed monthly". AfterShip sends "Email & SMS notifications" from its Essentials plan and puts the tracking page on your own domain on Premium. Malomo builds the page "in your own Shopify theme with zero code" and triggers email and SMS through Klaviyo, Attentive, Yotpo, Sendlane and Postscript, or sends email itself at "$0.0045/message". Pick AfterShip for a store that wants a free start, SMS on the entry plan and a returns app from the same vendor. Pick Malomo for a Shopify or Shopify Plus brand that wants the tracking page inside its theme and its shipping messages inside its existing email and SMS tools. Pango is the alternative when tracking should run on the same system as carrier routing, the warehouse and returns.
Free for DTC brands: Pango runs the shipping and returns audit on your own order and carrier data as part of a demo: fifteen numbers across checkout, carriers, warehouse handover, tracking and returns, the three that matter most for your operation, and the same orders shown running on one system. | Order sync | "Order sync" is a listed feature; "Free first import: up to 500 shipments" (listing); "Free initial import" (website Shopify page) | "Connect Shopify, build your tracking page, and launch your emails in minutes."; "Malomo ingests 200+ datapoints from Shopify on every customer and their order" (website) |
| Carrier coverage (vendor's claim) | "1,100+ carriers" on the Shopify listing; "2,000+ carriers" on its website | "2000 carriers" on its pricing page and "2000+ carriers" on its tracking page creator page; its carriers page says "75+ standard carriers" plus an Extended Carrier Network of "thousands of non-standard carriers" |
| Shopify fit | Listing carries the "Built for Shopify" badge; works with Checkout, Customer accounts, Shopify Flow and Shopify Admin (listing) | Built for "Shopify and Shopify Plus brands" (website); the listing shows no "Built for Shopify" badge; Malomo.js for "your headless commerce site" |
| Free tier | "Free to install"; "50 shipments/month" | Listing price shown as "Free"; the website's cheapest plan is $49 a month, and no free plan is described there |
| Paid plans (Shopify listing) | Essentials "$11 / month", "includes 100 shipments/month; $0.08 per extrashipment"; Premium "$70 / month", "includes 500 shipments/month; $0.12 per extrashipment" | None on the listing. Website: "Lite Plan: $49/mo for 1,000 shipments and $.06/extra shipment"; "Starter Plan: $189/mo for 4,000 shipments and $.05/ extra shipment"; Growth "Starting at $400 billed monthly" |
Notes on the table. AfterShip's website shows annual billing by default, "Starting at $29 /month" for Essentials and "Starting at $59 /month" for Premium at "6,000 shipments per year", which is a different volume from the listing's monthly plans. AfterShip's carrier count is "1,100+" on its listing and "2,000+" on its website. Malomo's carrier figures also differ between its own pages, so each is shown as its page states it. Malomo's own site carries the banner "Malomo has been acquired by Redo!", so this page describes the Malomo order tracking product as Malomo's pages describe it today. Malomo's listing shows a rating of 5.0 from 6 reviews and AfterShip's shows 4.6 from 1,515, both as the listings state them. Each vendor's pages about the other are not used.
Which fits which Shopify store
- A store that wants to start free and grow into paid tiers: AfterShip. Its listing has a free plan for 50 shipments a month and two paid plans priced per shipment.
- A Shopify or Shopify Plus brand that wants the tracking page inside its own theme: Malomo. Its page creator builds the page in the Shopify theme, and its Growth tier has Malomo build the page for you.
- A store that already runs Klaviyo, Attentive, Yotpo, Sendlane or Postscript and wants shipping messages sent from there: Malomo, which triggers email and SMS through those tools. AfterShip's listing also names Klaviyo and Attentive under "Works with", with its own email and SMS sending from Essentials.
- A store that also wants returns from the same vendor: AfterShip. Its separate app, AfterShip Returns & Exchanges, has "Free plan available" and the "Built for Shopify" badge. Malomo's pages read describe tracking and messaging, not a returns product.
- A store that ships with many regional or international carriers: check both carrier lists before buying. AfterShip claims "1,100+" on its listing. Malomo's help centre says estimated delivery dates "will not be available for many of the carriers in our Extended Carrier Network".
The verdict
Both replace the carrier page and send the notifications. AfterShip is the broader tracking app: a free tier, per-shipment plans, SMS on the entry plan, your own domain on Premium, a returns app alongside, and the badge. Malomo is the Shopify-native page builder: the page lives in the theme, the messages run through the tools the brand already uses, and the price is by shipment volume from $49 a month. Choose on monthly volume, on whether the tracking app or your ESP should send the messages, and on whether returns should come from the same vendor.
Pango as the alternative
AfterShip and Malomo both sit on top of the logistics: they read the carrier's scans and present them. Pango runs the logistics. It is an AI-native operating system for e-commerce logistics: checkout delivery options and ETAs, multi-carrier routing and labels across more than 100 carriers through prebuilt connectors, warehouse pick and pack, branded tracking pages on the merchant's domain with statuses normalised across carriers and proactive notifications, and returns and exchanges on the same order record. A delay is an operational trigger for a message or a workflow, not only a line on a page. Pango is not an order management system. It sits on top of the store's OMS. Pricing is on pango.ai/pricing.
The bottom line
AfterShip and Malomo do the same job for a Shopify store, a branded tracking page and the shipping notifications, and they differ on model: AfterShip is a free-to-start tracking app with per-shipment plans, SMS on the entry plan and a returns app, Malomo is a Shopify-native page builder priced by volume with messages sent through your ESP. If the tickets start before the tracking page, compare them with a system that runs the carriers and the warehouse too.
